Hey, you look new. Come here kid. Don’t stand there with your hands in your pockets, show some respect! That’s better. If you pay attention, I can give you enough knowledge to get you around without getting killed, but after that, it’s all up to you.

    First off, you gotta be respectful. Give respect and you get respect. It all works like that, kid. Everything works on honor round here and if you’re a disrespectful loudmouth, you’ll find yourself at the bottom of the bay quicker than anything. Find out about Omerta and live by it. It’s very simple round here kid, you’re a respectable Mafioso, or you’re fish food. Anyway, I suppose I best show you a bit about how stuff works. I ain’t got the time to show you everything. The boss wants my ass back at HQ soon, but I’ll get you started with the basics. After that, you’ll be on your own and you can look about at your leisure.

    Let’s start with the important stuff. Round here there’s a pecking order, a rank system, which you gotta work your way up. One way to do that is with CRIME, you know, like stealing money or dealing drugs, but that’s just a part of it. You gotta spend time doing a whole bunch of stuff in here to work your way up. Speak to people, make connections; use your MAIL if it’s private, or the STREET if you want to talk to a bunch of people. If you’re not talking about stuff to do with the day to day of life, don’t talk about it in the street. There’s a GENERAL area for stuff like that. Once you get in a family, and I suggest you do that as soon as you can, you can talk to your family members in what’s called the CREW FORUM, but is really the HQ of the family you are in. Your boss will post important stuff here, so keep an eye on it so you don’t miss anything, but whatever you do, don’t blab about what you see here. The Family is sacred and you must not talk about what your family is doing outside of the HQ. You will be classed as a traitor and dealt with as one. Want cement shoes? No, I thought not, so keep your trap shut.

    A quick word of warning to you kid; try to keep out of the way of the pigs. If they catch you knocking over a joint, you could end up in the JAIL, and let me tell you, that ain’t pleasant. If any of your friends or one of the Family get put away, you can try and bust them out, but it’s risky, and you risk getting thrown in with them if you fail. Mind you, it’s all good for helping you get higher up the scale. If you do stuff like that for your boss, you never know, he might look kinder on you next time he’s promoting.

    If you get into the drug market, you’ll have to go to the CITY airport or train station, and take the TRAIN or FLY to other places. There’s a whole world out there kid, and you can get there quite quickly if you go on the train or fly. It’ll cost though, so make sure you have enough cash on hand. A quick trip to the BANK is a good plan to make sure you have enough before you go. You can also TRANSFER cash from the bank, but you have to be in the same city as the person you’re giving it to, or they get nothing. Check in the LOCALS listing to see if the person you’re looking to give cash to is there.

    You can make or lose money by betting on the horses too kid. Just go to the local track and you can GAMBLE away your life savings on some three-legged screw, or you can win a mint on a thoroughbred filly. If you’re going to gamble, check out the form, and get some inside tips.

    Don’t forget the CHURCH either kid. If someone in the family gets wacked, they always have a funeral and you can go pay your last respects to the dead. The priest there is friendly and takes confessional. If you’ve got something to get off your chest, you can do it there and he won’t tell a soul. It’s always good to slip a few bucks into the collection plate too kid. You never know when you might need the church on your side.

    Right, I have to get back to the Boss before I get in trouble. That’s something you should learn quick as well kid. Always do as the Boss tells you, stay outta trouble and don’t get caught if you’re trying to earn a fast buck. Add that to being respectful, especially to those in higher ranks, and you’ll probably do well. Don’t forget to have a good look round. There’s more to this than I just told you, but I don’t have the time to take you through everything.
